40 Days and a Bonus!

When I started my 40 Bags in 40 Days Project, I really didn't think that I would come across anything significant.

I went through a drawer in my family room:

This is supposed to be a drawer for blankets. But as you can see, there are books, pictures, a valentine's banner, table cloth and a few cards.

When I went through the cards to recycle them, this is what I found:

Score! I'm off to the mall.

And then, I'll finish the drawer!

My New Love

This is the BEST invention for a book reader like myself! I LOVE it! Now all I need is a pool, some sun and a pina colada!

Before and After

I'm thrilled with how our sideboard turned out. This is the before:

And now for the after:

I'm not quite done as I still have to sew some basket liners and tie on chalkboard tags. But this is the first one (I'm still 'tweaking' the pattern!):

Sorry for the dark picture.

And yes, for those of you on the island, that is the glare of the sun on the floor (the lovely parquet floor).

40 Days (A Lenten Project)

I read about the 40 Bags in 40 Days project. The basic idea is to 'rid' your house of 40 bags of 'stuff' during the 40 days of lent. If you want to know more, you can read about it here.

Because I decided about a week into lent to commit myself to the project, I'm a little behind! I needed help:

helpers!

I enlisted the girls to go through their rooms. They were given a bag and told to fill it with anything they don't want/need anymore. That included broken toys, old clothes that don't fit, papers, books they don't want etc. I explained that we sometimes hold onto 'stuff' when, really, it's not the 'stuff' that's important. It's uncomfortable to let go of what we perceive is important. Which is the point of the whole project.

Did they get it? Who knows?! But they each filled a bag!

When they were done, we sorted it out into garbage, recycling, and good will. I was proud with what they accomplished! It doesn't look like much but their rooms sure look better!

Now I have to fill my bag!

Chaos

We hit 10 degrees yesterday! You know what that means! Time to break out the paint!

This is the project I want to work on:

It's taken me a while to get to this point. Mostly because my grandpa made this piece. They had it in their dining/family room.

But, before I could paint, I had to empty it:

Yikes! Can you believe all this was in there? I can guarantee you that this will not all go back! (Is that jelly beans there? From last Easter? Yum.) As my favorite organizer says YOU CAN'T ORGANIZE CHAOS. You just have to get rid of it. I'll go through it and if I don't use it or love it, it's gone.

You do know what CHAOS stands for, right? Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome.

I think I'll pass out if anyone comes to the front door.

Aloha!

The girls went to a luau last night with their brownie and sparks group.

No parents allowed.

Looking for $ in my purse!

I think they have more of a social life than us. How did that happen?

Happy Pancake Day!

It's Shrove Tuesday. Or Fat Tuesday. Or Pancake Tuesday.

Guess what we're having for supper?!

So proud!

We went to our first karate tournament and came home with a medal. A bronze medal!

The event she medaled in: Pad Kumite. She had to spar against 3 black belts holding pads and moving around her.

Way to go!

Dreaming

I'm scrapbooking our Arizona trip from last Easter.

So now I'm dreaming...no touques...no mitts...no boots...

Really - she's laughing!
