For the love of Betty Crocker

Because, really, if it wasn't for her ability to think outside inside the box, we wouldn't be having a cupcake themed party. There is no way I would have made 80 cupcakes from scratch:

I found some polka dot and gingham cupcake wrappers. As well as some cute cupcake trays to help carry our guest's treats.

If I could talk to Betty, I'd ask why she doesn't make this anymore:

or maybe she does and I just can't find it.

Cupcake Party Part II

The girls were given each a flower headband from my girlfriend for Christmas. They were so cute and adorable, that I knew they would be a perfect addition to the goodie bags at our next party.

Of course, making 10 of them seemed like a lot of work. But thanks to some help, we finished after just one evening! And all our fingers are still intact!

Cupcake Party Part I

In anticipation of a lot of mess at the Cupcake Birthday Party, I thought that the little girls should have aprons to wear. I found some at Michaels for $1.50. (That should give you some indication of quality!). I then went looking for cupcake appliques to iron on. Can you believe that they were 3 times as much as the apron?! After wandering around for inspiration, I finally found it. In this:
a stamp!
I had fabric paint in the craft cupboard so I painted the sections in the colours I wanted (there was no pink, so I had to combine the red and white...not exactly the colour I wanted. But to gain perspective, these are for 6 year olds!)
I pressed it down in the middle of the apron

Once done, I had to touch up a little bit with some more paint.

So easy...And I'm not just saying that!

Winter at Heritage Park

It's not too often that we get to Heritage Park in the winter. Every weekend, they serve a great brunch in the Hotel (although this weekend, we were in the dairy barn due to renovations). After brunch, we were able to walk/drive around and take some pictures of the buildings.

cousins!

It was a fun weekend. A tiring weekend. I think that in my old age, I can't celebrate the way I used to! (smile)

Growin' up with style

Today I saw some 'Holly Hobbie' fabric in the store. I wanted to buy it even though I had no idea what to do with it! It was so exciting to see something that I grew up with come back.

I came home and told the kids. My oldest said, 'Holly who?'

Holly Hobbie valentine fabric

kinda blurry - sorry

Umm...Holly Hobbie...Mommy grew up with her. She was everywhere. Dresses, toys, dolls.

All I got was a blank look.

Ahh the '80s. Good times...

I can still hear the 'blip blip blip'

rubic's cube

And the movies...

Molly Ringwald!

Hope this makes you smile. I did.

First go 'Round

We have BIG plans at the end of the month involving a BIG cupcake. However, I heard that there could be problems with this cake pan. Seeing as my cake decorator up and moved on to a warmer, wetter climate, I thought that I should work on a 'practice' cake before the big day.

Just ignore the squiggly icing. I tried...the icing was just too soft...

As for the cake, the bottom sunk a bit but I just filled it in with icing (do you really think the kids will care?!)

Maybe one day, I can make a cake like this:

Or not.
